Ok, so your vertical is up to par. You've got the big calves and the girls are going crazy. Now onto the next problem. Most basketball players have great coordination...But I see some uncoordinated ass dudes out on the courts who are fast and can jump higher than all the other players. They just seem to be incapable of doing the simple lead up to the dunk.

What I would recommend for everyone who can't get their step down is to start measuring what distance you prefer to start from and then measure your strides. Do this until you are comfortable with your intro to the hoop. I would also recommend coming from an angle, taking three large entry steps and then throwing down. Remember it is easiest for most to jump off one foot. To become comfortable, I would recommend working on your step without a basketball in hand until it becomes second nature.

Once you feel like you have your step down, start dunking with a tennis ball. Once you can consistently dunk a tennis ball, I would use a volleyball for a while. After you can consistently dunk a volleyball then you should be comfortable enough to use a basketball. By consistently, I mean you should be able to dunk with ease at least 20 times before moving up to the next level. The reason it is important to work your way up gradually is because it is very easy to injure yourself trying to dunk when you are just not all there fundamentally.

So there you have it. A complete how-to-guide taking you from a non-dunking bitch to a baller.

Perform these exercises 3 - 5 times a week.

Warm up first. This is always a must. As stated previously, warming up consists of doing stretches, a couple minutes of jogging and of course rope jumping. Also run up and down the stairs for a while. Don't do this too much as you might wear your legs down even before beginning the exercise!.

These exercises are slightly similar to the elevated, explosive and double jumps but remember, there should be a variety in exercises because once your muscles get used to a particular set of exercise, it stops responding and you must stimulate your muscles response using a different set. So i suggest you rotate similar exercises every 2 weeks.

1. Stand firmly. Bend slowly while keeping your back straight. Continue bending as low as you can, then slowly rise back up. Do this 20 times and increase over time.

2. Do the same as above, but crouch down more quickly to the point where your bottom almost touches the ground, then explode upwards as high as you can. The second you land, immediately crouch and launch back up again. Do this 20 times, and increase over time.

Vertical leap Exercises - A list of most exercises for increasing your vertical leap.

- Strengthen your ankles by doing ankle hops.- Walk around on your heels without letting the ball of your foot touch the floor.

- Start stretches working mostly on the hamstrings, quads, hip-flexors and glutes and calves.- Using your tip toes, stand on a spot for a couple of minutes.- Run or walk on your tip toes for 20 minutes.

- Do a 100 squats. Complete by doing 10 sets of 10 repetitions.- Do however many calf raises you can. When you're in good shape, you should do above 200.

Tip #3: Isometric stretching. Or PNF as it is sometimes called speeds workout recovery times. Stretching alone over the coarse of 1 month brought a 15% increase in lower body strength to the tested athletes. Now just imagine if it was isometrics stretching! Those elite gymnast that I've worked with can generate a lot of total body power. How else do you pull off a Triple back-flip? Well all of them have total body flexibility, which has too many benefits to mention here, and all do mostly isometric workouts as well. Start stretching at least 3x a week, working mostly on the hamstrings, quads, hip-flexors & glutes.Simply use a towel to stretch your given limb to its comfortable limit for 10 seconds, then from the same angle pull/contract against the stretch for 10 seconds, relax & go back into the stretch. You should be able to easily improve range of motion as this type of stretch tricks the GTO into giving up more flexibility! Repeat this sequence again 1 more time at the improved range. One final thought here, that is stretch only after your work-outs as research indicates stretching before an event or work out actually decreases power output.

I'm talking about the transverse abdominal wall, underneath them, which plays a key role in every power movement & you can make them stronger. Suck in your stomach with a deep breath, try to imagine sucking into the spine. Hold this position for 20 seconds. Repeat 4 more times, do these 3-4 times a week to reap the performance rewards and the appearance of a slimmer waist as the internal organs won't sag!

Tip #5: The Overspeed Jump. You will not find this jump drill in any manuel, ebook, or training programs. If you ever get bored of doing the same old plyometrics here is a completely new exercise to add to the mix. Plyometrics seek to train the nervous system to speed up reflex action for jumps, or any explosive movements for that matter at the take off. Maximum power training, along with traditional weight training seek to add to the strength side of the equation. But what about raw muscle speed? Here's a brand new drill for just that: What you will first need is a small jogging trampoline, if not a makeshift ramp about 6ft. in length may do. Next what you need is a target that you jump at like say a basketball hoop. Now what you are going to do is place the trampoline 1-2 strides away from the goal, run and make your last step before you plant to jump a stride off the tramp (note: your not doing actual jumps off the mini tramp). This will overspeed your run just before the actual take-off, making your legs jump quicker as well! When done correctly you will make a noticeably higher leap! This is what you will gain when you teach your muscles to move faster through the jump. We are currently experimenting with better methods and new training like this and possibly even better ones to come. Stay tuned in!

Tip #6: Strengthen the Tibialis Anterior. Here's one many athletes have used with great results. This muscle is located on the shin & commonly referred to as the Dorsi-Flexors. Build these & you will add inches to your jump, eliminate shin splints, and improve take-off quickness. The Dorsi-Flexors stabilize the lower leg allowing maximum take-off force. You won't target this group using the Proprioceptor plugs. The reason this works is because each muscle group has a counter-balancing group of muscles. You can only be as strong as the opposing muscles, so hundreds of weighted calf raises will soon plateau if you don't develop these stabilizers. One way to start working them, is try walking around on your heels without letting the ball of your foot touch. Do this until you feel a good burn. Ultimately you're going to have to take better measures! In our complete jump higher program "bionic jumping power " I'll show you much better ways to develop your shins. The pros use a special devise called DARD that will allow you to build maximum strength in the shins.

Tip #7 Build fast twitch muscle fibers, speed up slow twitch fibers. If you want to make leaps and bounds first we have to stop the bleeding! By this I mean no more slow-twitch inducing exercises like aerobics. Ask yourself does the sport your involved with require power or endurance? If you're a football player, gymnast, or sprinter (I think you get my point) you have NO need for aerobic training. When would you use it? The more you do long duration endurance training the more your muscles will learn oxygen consuming low output slow-twitch characteristics. You want muscles that are becoming more efficient at using the creatine phosphate energy system! So without sounding like I'm hating on aerobics here, you really need to focus on those high-intensity/short duration drills like sprinting. Interestingly enough sprinters have the highest % of fast-twitch muscles of all athletes. Who do you think jumps higher the sprinter or the marathoner? One final though on this subject is recent research in Nitric Oxide (NO) supplements seems to indicate that they speed up fast-twitch muscles and seem to make slow-twitch fibers act more like the fast as well. This may make this the ultimate in vertical jump supplementation possibly rivaling with Creatine Monohydrate!

Tip #8: Waveloading. Here is another good instant vert. Trick you can play on the nervous system. Load your body with some weight before jumping, like say jumping with a medicineball. What happens is your body will recruit more motor units in the working muscles, allowing the work to seem much easier when you don't have the weight because you are now using more of them! This trick works with any exercise & is great for breaking plateaus.Another variable to this method is what i call an "unloading jump". To perform this all you need to do is grab a pair of 10lb dumbells(or any weight) hold them at waist level, quick step up to the rim to do a rim jump (counter movement jump) at the peak of crouch just before you'd take off for the rim drop the weights and blast off. The science behind this methods is that when you load the eccentric contraction with more weight than the concentric (jump) you will be able to create more force. One set of 5-10 reps with this new drill will give instant as well as residual leap increases!

Tip #9: Springbak speedsoles. Former L.A. Laker Bill Crow is the genius behind these micro thin shoe inserts, made of patented material, that are being used by U.S.A. Olympic volleyball teams. Remember the old saying "It must be the shoes", well it is if you have these speedsoles in them! When I first saw them I thought the claims were a farce, so I had to buy some to put them to the test. We at Bionic Plyometrics found with the inserts result in an immediate 2 inch vertical jump increase & drop in 40 yard dash times of 1/10 of a second. These springbak rubber shoe inserts are gradually becoming more popular and retail for about $25. I've recently decided to sell them in light of these findings! Another interesting point to mention is that on heavier atheletes (over 200lbs) actually using 2 pairs of inserts gave a 3" increase in vertical! Now buying 2 pairs might be a little costly but how else can you "insert" that much more vertical into your game? If your already an accomplished jumper in the high 30's imagine what can happen wen you integrate these secrets and the speedsoles to get you up close to the 40" mark. If you've never experienced that well lets jus say its like taking off from a trampoline!

Tip #10: Strengthen the toe muscles. Flexor Hallucis Longus are the small muscles that start in the lower leg & come down to the big toe. Work this for an added inch by trying to curl in/or crunch the toes. Another drill is to push up onto the tip toes and hold that for at least 10 seconds. After as little as 6 weeks with this you can easily add an inch to the top!
Remember it is important to separate your speed/plyometric training days from your strength training. This is a fatal flaw many programs are selling you that will rob you of much deserved results!Check with our site periodically to see what's new since I am always conducting new experiments as well as doing new research on this and many related topics!

How can it beat the others by so much? Well basically back when springbaks were invented, they made a number of patents, which by law prevent other insole companies & even shoe makers like Nike from copying them and using the same material.

The space age material they use is called butadiene. Butadiene by itself has 15% more resilence than any other material in the world! The best thing is springbaks are tiny. The width is actually smaller than normal insoles and you wont have to get bigger shoes to house them.

Certainly a must for any athlete, (and they're dirt cheap!)

As I mentioned in part one on how to jump higher I decided to get on the phone and grill over 13 world class strength coaches on their vertical training methods. How can you go wrong when you have over 13 of the nation’s best experts teach you first hand what they know on vertical jump training?

And the best thing for me was the learning experience. I learned so much from these world class coaches and here is my chance to share what I learned. I must warn you though: There is a chance you can bang your head on the rim by following these vertical jump tips!

In part 1 of this series I got a chance to share vertical jump training secrets from 3 kettlebell training experts. If you did not read part 1 makes sure to check it because there is a great deal you can learn from these gentlemen.

Next I got chance to grill Jon Hinds, Dave Schmitz and Burke Spencer. They are true gentlemen, world class strength coaches but they too share a unique distinction. They are known in training circles as band training experts and each brings a unique twist to their band training expertise. Dave makes great use of the famous Flex Bands and Jon and Burke are the actually inventors of their band products.

For those that think band training is only for home gym workouts and general fitness tools think again. These gentlemen will teach you that they are excellent tools for maximizing your workouts and have the resume of working with elite pro athletes in many sports to prove it.

1. The big point to drive home is that you need to use a band that adds resistance but not so much that you wreck your form. Band training is meant to be fast so you need to choose an appropriate level of resistance. Dave Schmitz even spoke of the bigger guys being humbled by the use of the heaviest bands. This is certainly not the way to go. Once you can touch the rim with simple medium or even light bands get ready to start dunking and grabbing more rebounds!

2. Another big point these band experts drive home is the importance of proper technique: Remember to jump explosively and land quietly. As Jon Hinds put it: Land like a cat. Other tips to keep in mind are to keep your chest up and butt out, make sure knees track toward the second and big toe and your weight is distributed 50/50 on each side.

3. The great thing I love about bands is you work hard and fast with little resistance (compared to traditional weights).

So to review bands give you the ability to train fast with a resistance heavy enough to make you work harder and improve yet light enough that it does not destroy your form and hurt your progress. Bands are also great to drop in on almost any exercise. They all had slightly different ways of using bands but the premises were very similar. Train fast using movements that will maximize your jumping.

Jon Hinds really drove home another big point. Don’t forget to add jumping to increase your jumping ability. You’ll be surprised to see how many people forget this! We have many programs that focus on every exercise under the sun except what we are trying to do and that is jump!

Virgil Aponte brings over 12 years of experience as a Personal Trainer, High School PE Teacher and Strength & Conditioning Coach. He has trained hundreds of people including elite professional athletes of the Women’s National Basketball Association and Major League Baseball. He earned his Master's Degree in Physical Education from Brooklyn College and is an American College of Sports Medicine Health & Fitness Instructor. Based in Brooklyn New York he is considered by many fitness industry experts as the authority on stair exercise training and is the author and creator of the Ultimate Stair Exercises for Athletes.

When we first saw the Get Max Vertical program we thought "here we go, another program slapped together by some internet marketing person out to make a quick buck". However, once we read it, we were very pleasantly surprised. Read on to find out why we quite liked this vertical jump program.

Quality of Information

The Get Max Vertical (GMV) program by Mark Ferguson really does a nice job of conveying to the reader the essentials of the vertical jump equation. Whilst the program doesn't go into the same level of detail as the Vertical Jump Bible, it certainly provides the necessary information to give the athlete a solid understanding of what, and how they need to train.

It has a brief but sufficient sections explaining plyometrics and strength training and the role they play in vertical jump training. It also has a discussion of the various factors that need to be considered in your training such as age, training environment, body composition, jumping style etc.

All in all the information contained in Get Max Vertical, whilst not overly comprehensive, was pretty good. In fact, upon reading GMV, we wished more programs would cover the breadth of information that this does. Vertical jumping would be better for it.

Customization

GMV comes with a variety of programs designed to suit an athletes different needs. It has programs for speed development, programs for strength development, and programs for the development of a combination of these athletic attributes.

However in much the same way as VJB, the sets and reps, despite the excellent discussion earlier in the program, are prescribed without too much consideration for other factors.

None the less, there are quite a number of combinations of programs to keep the majority of athletes progressing for quite a while.

Presentation

Get Max Vertical is a downloadable PDF file. As such the presentation is what you would expect from a PDF based ebook. It does have photographs to accompany each of the exercises which makes it easier to see how to do them. Oddly, and we thought also somewhat disturbingly, the face of the person in the pictures was pixelated out which gave us the impression that he had something to hide.

Another benefit of GMV over programs such as VJB and TVP is that because it isn't electronically protected you can print out the workout logs. This is a very handy feature, and one we wish other programs would provide.

Value For Money

This is one of the best value for money programs available. At only $23.77 it is hardly going to break the bank. However, just because it doesn't cost that much doesn't mean it is no good. As we have said in the paragraphs above, GMV has plenty of quality information.

If you are new to vertical jump training and don't want to be bogged down with too much detail and aren't prepared to spend much money, then this is definitely the program for you.

Note - Just checked the website and apparently the price is going back up to $49.95 soon. Not sure if this is anything like The Vertical Project or not, but usually (not always) these impending price hikes are meaningless. If the price does go up to $49.95 then our review would change. We would just say buy Vertical Jump Bible or Athletic Advantage.

Conclusion

For us we view Get Max Vertical as kind of like a Vertical Jump Bible Lite. It doesn't have the level of detail, but then again, it is (currently) nearly half the price. What it does have is the basics of sound training advice, plenty of good, usable training advice, and a variety of well put together programs. All in all we really like this program for what it is.

The Jump Experts series is a terrific introduction to the world of vertical jump training. It offers the views of a variety of different strength and conditioning coaches on how best to maximize your vertical. Is it worth your hard earned dollars? Read on to find out.

Quality of Information

The Jump Experts series no doubt has plenty of high quality training information, with possibly the best part being its breadth of advice. The key strength of the package is that it introduces you to a variety of training philosophies as each of the coaches has a unique area of expertise that they impart on the athlete.

For example there is information about kettlebell training from a couple of the Experts, there is information about diet from another one. Several of the Experts talk about the benefits of rubber band training, Virgil Aponte who put the Jump Experts package together, talks about the benefits of stair training, and another expert discusses injury prevention.

This broad range of views gives the reader a great introduction to some of the many things that can be done to improve your vertical jump. It also shows just how much more there is to vertical jump training besides lifting weights and doing plyometrics.

The downside to all this information is that it does distort the picture as to the level of importance of the different training niches. As an example, the experts whose area of specialty is kettlebell training naturally talk up its effectiveness. The rubber band experts talk up the use of rubber bands etc. It should be noted that these different methods can all certainly help, but like all jump training methods, alone they are not the answer.

That aside, most of the experts do actually show terrific understanding of the broader requirements of vertical jumping and explain nicely what sorts of things you can do for your jump.

Customization

Jump Experts isn't really a traditional jump program so it is hard to really assess how customizable it is to each athlete. There is certainly plenty of valuable information across a range of topics that an athlete could take and apply to their training. However, there is no advice given on whether or not an individual athlete should even be applying the techniques described.

In this regard it lets the athlete down. A number of the people included do say an athlete should focus on their weaknesses (which by the way is perhaps the single best bit of vertical jump training advice anyone can give), but there is no guidance on how to determine what your weaknesses really are.

If you compare this to say, Athletic Advantage, which has a number of tests designed to help determine what the focus of your training should be, well Jump Experts is clearly not in the same league.

Presentation

The Jump Experts comes as a series of downloadable pdf and MP3 files. The MP3 files in particular are excellent. Here a number of the Experts are interviewed about their thoughts on vertical jump training. There is some very insightful stuff that will give any athlete plenty to think about.

The pdf files represent the training philosophies of each Expert. Some of them contain programs that you can follow, other just provide training advice on a certain area and how it can be applied. The quality is what you would generally expect from a pdf download.

Value For Money

Jump Experts costs $87.00. How well you perceive its value will depend entirely on what you are after. If you want a program that tells you exactly what exercises etc to do that is customized to your needs, buy Athletic Advantage. As a program it is cheaper and more in line with your needs.

On the other hand, if you are a seasoned jump trainer after some fresh input and ideas, then you will no doubt find that it has plenty to offer and is a well worth the price.

Conclusion

From a purely informational point of view, we thought Jump Experts was great. We have incorporated a number of the techniques into our training and they have really helped us push through some plateaus. Going forward it has given us plenty of ideas to help keep our training fresh and interesting. As a jump program however it lacks the necessary specificity to the individual athlete to really be any good.

Our final word on the package is that it is a great concept that has been put together nicely. It gives you wonderful coverage on a range of ideas devoted to vertical jumping. It isn't however a pure training program, and probably shouldn't have been marketed that way. None the less, there is plenty of quality training information provided to give you a greater understanding of whats involved in developing your vertical.

The Vertical Jump Bible by Kelly Baggett is a terrific resource for jump training information. It is one of the best known and well respected jump programs available on the market. But is it a good program to actually follow? Read on for our complete review.

Quality of Information

When we first bought the Vertical Jump Bible we were immediately blown away by the sheer volume and quality of jump related information it provides. If you were to compare it to every other commercially available program in these terms you would find this one to be the clear winner.

It has detailed discussions about the various types of athletic characteristics required for a high vertical jump, as well as how to train them. It has plenty of practical advice on plyometrics and how to introduce those into your training in a safe and effective manner. It discusses at length the different muscle fiber types and what role they play in determining your maximum vertical jump.

It provides excellent information about determining your strengths and weaknesses so as to focus your training on the areas that are lacking. It also has quite a thorough section providing Kelly Baggett’s views on the various training aids out there including weight vests, platform shoes etc.

One of the unexpected highlights was the excellent and thorough nutritional advice contained in Body Composition Basics which comes as a bonus for buying the Vertical Jump Bible. Quite frankly this bonus is almost as good, if not better than the Vertical Jump Bible itself.

As a source of jumping training information, it is excellent value. Unlike many programs out there, the Vertical Jump Bible takes a refreshingly realistic approach to the sorts of gains and the sorts of time frames that it takes to achieve an amazing vertical jump.

Customisation

The Vertical Jump Bible has a variety of well structured programs in it to cater to the different levels of athlete. It has beginner, intermediate and advanced programs. It further breaks these down for those with and without access to a gym.

The programs themselves are very well structured. They are designed to contain exercises that will focus on the different athletic characteristics of a vertical jump so you should develop a pretty good balance of the key strengths required.

If we had to make a criticism, and we do so with great hesitation, it is that despite all the wonderful information that is presented, the programs are still essentially cookie cutter programs. They are individually tailored only to the extent that they incorporate more advanced exercises and higher training volumes as you go up through the levels.

That said, most athletes should be able to find a program in their that suits their needs and use it to make steady jumping improvements.

Presentation

The Vertical Jump Bible can be bought either as a downloadable PDF or a printed and bound book. We have the downloadable version which is a plain and simple written word book. There are no pictures, no fancy graphics, no exercise descriptions, no nothing. Except of course tons of high quality information.

The omissions are not really a big deal. Anyone with an internet connection can do a Google, or better still YouTube search for how to perform an exercises.

Whilst visually it lacks the photos and glossy outlay of Athletic Advantage, or The Vertical Project,in terms of written clarity and the communication of the training concepts, it is excellent. Kelly Baggett is a terrific writer who knows how to easily and succinctly impart his knowledge.

On the downside, the e-book is electronically protected so you can't print it out. You have to be at your computer to view it. This is annoying in that you have to find your own way to format the training programs so that you can use them away from the PC.

Value For Money

The Vertical Jump Bible is priced only at $39.99. For all the great information on jump training, excellent bonuses, and the wide variety of programs it provides, this is extremely good value. You will learn a lot (or you could just read the articles on our site), but more importantly, if you follow the advice given, you should be able to make excellent improvements to your vertical.

Conclusion

The Vertical Jump Bible is without doubt an outstanding product. It provides you with plenty of no hype, no nonsense training information and advice. The programs provided, whilst a bit limited in how customized they are to each athlete, are still very well thought out and put together.

It isn't as user friendly or as customized as Athletic, however, if you were to buy it, you definitely would not be disappointed.

For years I’ve used stair training to maximize my power which lead me to using them with the hundreds of athletes I’ve trained including players from Major League Baseball and the Women’s National Basketball Association. And because of my work with professional athletes and my love for basketball I get many questions from people all over the world on vertical jump training. And since I don’t know it all (far from it) I know it’s in my best interest to learn from other strength coaches, personal trainers, physical therapists, nutritionists, doctors and so on. And I’m actually pretty lucky as I can pick up the phone or email many of the best trainers in the world and pick their brain on performance enhancement.

So in late 2006 I decided to get on the phone and grill over 13 world class strength coaches on their vertical training methods.

The first group of guys I will speak of are Jason C Brown, Steve Cotter and Brett Jones. Besides being gentlemen and world class strength coaches they also share the unique distinction of being kettlebell training experts.

I must admit when I first learned about kettlebells years back I never really gave it much thought because I thought you could do kettlebell exercises with a dumbbell. As I quickly learned, you can not do exercises that are specific to kettlebells with a dumbbell. It’s not the same. Try a kettlebell swing with a dumbbell and they are very different. Now this is not to say that dumbbells are bad. This is just to say that each piece of equipment has a specific use and each has its own advantages and disadvantages.

In speaking with the gentlemen a few things ring through with kettlebell lifting that make them excellent tools for vertical jump training.

1. It is very hard to find an exercise that mimics the motion of vertical jumping better than the kettlebell swing. Further more is that you can perform the exercise explosively. Now this is not to say that power cleans or snatches are not great exercises that teach explosive hip extension but they are more technical and harder to teach. This is simply not the case with the kettlebell swing which makes it excellent for working with large groups. Our weight room workouts have over 40 student athletes working out at once and introducing the kettlebell has been a blessing because I find it much easier to teach the movements than power cleans. And even easier than teaching the hang clean. Does this mean I’m lazy? No, I just happened to find a better tool for teaching athletes explosive hip extension. Will I abandon the power and hang clean? No. No I have even more exercises in my tool box which makes it easier not to be married to a set a certain exercise.

So what’s the lesson here? If you can add kettlebells into your training programs you have an excellent vertical jump training tool that is hard to beat.

2. Another great thing about kettlebells reiterated by Steve Cotter is that there is a unique quality in the shape of kettlebells: The shape I believe and many other trainers will agree is that they actually guide you into proper form. Because of the round shape any deviance from bad form and you automatically feel it so you get right back into the correct groove. This is key and something I’ve never really experienced with barbells and dumbbells. Furthermore, a big premise of kettlebells is that training is practice and practice develops your skill. The more skilled you are the stronger you will be and the higher you will jump. I mean do you ever really see guys that can jump or are really fast not run or jump with excellent form? Not really. Fix someone’s technique and form and that in itself will help them jump higher.

3. Keep things simple. Read that again and again. All three guys alluded to this. We know what works and have known for a long time. Don’t try to reinvent the wheel and just use what we already know. Basics like the dead lift, squat and its variations combined with explosive lifting, actually jumping, and of course excellent technique will take you very far.

4. Another big point to drive home from this panel was keeping the reps low (3-5) when strength training. A great vertical requires excellent strength and that means to train movements like the dead lift, squat and pull-ups with low reps to develop that strength. No need for higher reps as that can lead to weight gain and possibly using bad form. Simple enough right. 5 sets of 5 reps on big bang exercises and you are good to go! Don’t forget to practice your jumping. I mean would you ask someone wanting to improve their speed not to sprint?

Lebron James was a natural talent in football. He scored 19 touchdowns in six games in his first year of Pee Wee football, when he only was a fourth-grader. However, in spite of his success, he started to miss school on regular basis. His coach, Mr. Walker, noticed it and offered his mother the opportunity to give LeBron a more stable living environment. It ended up with LeBron moving with his coach's family.

It showed to be an excellent solution for LeBron as he learned discipline, family life and immediately this showed off very positively in his school reports. Mr. Walker also had a great impact on LeBron's basketball. The Walker family also helped LeBron return to his mother's home whenever he so desired. Besides that, LeBron had made some new friends and soon they were a terrific team on the basketball court.

Why did Mr. Walker offer LeBron a more stable living environment? His mother, Gloria James, was only 16 years when she gave birth to LeBron on December 30, 1984 in Akron, Ohio. His father had no interest at all in taking care of his newborn baby. The father left the small family without taking any responsibility. Life was hard for the young mother and she raised LeBron totally on her own, as her own mother passed away when LeBron was still an infant.

Gloria James tried to work wherever she was offered a job, but usually the jobs did not last long and her only solution was to move from one job to another. The young mother and her son kept their residence mostly in Akron, south of Cleveland, but had many different apartments. Although they faced hard living, Gloria James succeeded in keeping her little son away from the violence on the streets. At a very early age she gave him a ball and it would occupy him for hours every day. The little boy showed unlimited interest in playing with the ball.

School life was not very easy for LeBron. He was ashamed of his poor living and he was shy and introverted. He did not have many friends and he also had a hard time studying. But when it came to sports, there were not many who could beat him, as he became an outstanding athlete. When he played basketball he was thoughtful of his teammates as he did not keep the basketball just to himself, but distributed it to his teammates. In addition, he was excellent at taking the ball to the hole as he had a natural quickness and strength.
